The Martindale method is designed for light upholstery and general wear. In contrast, the Darmstadt test bench (EN 17092-1) subjects fabric specimens to actual concrete friction wheels rotating at calibrated velocities (up to 120 km/h) under high vertical loads.
This creates real-world frictional heat and sheer forces that expose seam melting and fabric rupture. VirtusMFG’s in-house Darmstadt testing ensures all OEM orders pass European lab certification on the first submission.
